“Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings is the story of what happens when all the bright lights start to burn instead of glitter and you become more of a part of the shadow they cast behind you than the person you are in front. Produced in two parts by Gil Norton & Brian Deck, it's about a flood of sin and liquor and dissolution and insanity and it's about trying to rebuild the life you wrecked in the wake of that flood. It's about the way it feels. It's about me.
It's a Counting Crows album. We're back. We were only ever as far gone as you can go.”

Counting Crows Lead Singer, Adam Duritz, Launches Indie Label

Counting Crows lead singer and Oscar-nominated songwriter, Adam Duritz, ventures into the label side of the music business with the launch of Tyrannosaurus Records (T-Recs). Starting a new label was not on Duritz’s to-do list, especially while he was busy writing new material and laying tracks for Counting Crows upcoming record (being recorded in NYC as we speak). But a trip to MySpace.com changed all that when he discovered two exceptional artists, Notar and Blacktop Mourning.
According to Duritz, “The talent of Notar and Blacktop Mourning just blew me away and I wanted to be a part of their evolution. But I know that when you start a label you’re responsible for the hopes and dreams of the artists you sign and that’s a big deal to me. We’re here to create a partnership with our artists, help them create great music and navigate the treacherous waters of the music business. Simple as that.”
“My vision for T-Recs is an intimate boutique label,” continues Duritz. “We’re in the studio with the bands, talking to them constantly about their careers and their music. We handle everything in-house and we’re taking on a very limited number of artists so that each band gets personal attention.”

'Counting Crows' to play alongside 'The Who' in March
Counting Crows have been a huge presence in the music world; from initial hit single Mr Jones to 2005’s Accidentally In Love featured on the Shrek 2 soundtrack. The soundtrack saw the band garner an Academy Award and Golden Globe nomination and perform the song on the Academy Awards telecast that year. Their newest album Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings, saw the band split their musical personality with the rock Saturday Nights produced by Gil Norton (of Pixies and Foo Fighters fame) whilst the more acoustic Sunday Mornings portion had Brian Deck (Modest Mouse, Iron and Wine) at the desk.

Rain King
"Rain King" is a single by the rock band Counting Crows. It was released as the band's fourth single (and third single of their debut album). The title is a reference to Saul Bellow's Henderson the Rain King, which is a 1959 novel by Saul Bellow. It is an excellent song and is definetly worth a listen.
Mr Jones (From the Album August and Everything After)
Mr. Jones is a song by the Counting Crows. It is the third track of their debut album August and Everything After (1994). It was the band's first radio hit, and, in the eyes of many, remains their best-known song to this day. Here is the video hope you enjoy it...
Counting Crows in New Orleans
I started this blog a couple of years ago, and one of my early posts was on the "secret" Counting Crows show in 2003 at the Shim Sham club in New Orleans. I only posted two of the tracks from the show - I think I was just daunted at having to link to 50 different tracks (it was a long, long show), and every now and then when I see the original post I think about how I should put up the rest of the show. Well here it is! Between 1999 and 2003 Adam Duritz and other members of Counting Crows played a secret show at the Shim Sham Club in New Orleans each May - corresponding with one of the two Jazz Fest weekends. Always amazing concerts, Adam and Co would slowly but surely get very, very drunk over the course of the shows, playing covers, each one with different friends contributing in some way.
